Why is my Samsung Wireless Charger Blinking Yellow?

Posted: 8 Sep, 2022.

Samsung has long been seen as a leader in tech innovation and many of its smartphones have gone on to be global best sellers. Since they introduced wireless charging to their handsets in 2014 (with a charging mat for the S4), and then built the 2015 S6 featuring wireless charging, they have not looked back.

Smart in design and high in quality, Samsung has constantly looked to evolve and, like MAGFAST, make charging something you can do quickly and easily.

Sometimes though, issues arise and you may need a quick fix. If your Samsung wireless charger is blinking yellow, read on and let’s see if we can fix it for you!

What makes my Samsung wireless charger blink yellow?

Whilst wireless charging is certainly the next step in charging devices and, as the tech improves, a way to charge fast, it still isn’t what some would call perfect. Most wireless chargers do not come with a display to indicate a fault, or whether charging is complete. Instead, LEDs illuminate in different colors to tell you something is either wrong, happening or completed.

In the case of the yellow flashing light, it means the charger has been disabled and is not pumping power into your phone. There could be a few reasons for this that could include a faulty charger, a damaged battery or a broken cable.

What should I do if my Samsung wireless charger is blinking yellow?

Sometimes it can be a relatively common fault and a quick reset will put you back in control of charging your phone. Try the following first as this is the quickest and easiest fix you can find:

  • Turn off any other wireless equipment in the house – it could be interfering with your charger
  • Look for debris or significant amounts of dust on the charger or the phone and remove them
  • Clean both devices to ensure a smooth contact
  • Turn the wireless charger back on and put the phone in place
  • Check to see if the fault remains.

If after this, you still are not getting charge into your phone, you will need to investigate other causes.

What causes my Samsung wireless charger to blink yellow?

If after this initial check, you have the same problem, the cause could be one of a host of things. Earlier we mentioned about how it could stem from the charger, the phone or the cable. Let’s look at those so you know exactly why your Samsung charger could be blinking yellow.

Faulty battery

If the battery within the phone itself has become damaged, the wireless charger will not be able to send a charge to it. Most units these days are sealed so you cannot just remove the battery yourself. This type of issue is likely to be one you would have to have a specialist repair shop look at. Don’t rush off and do that yet! One of our other reasons may be what is causing the blinking yellow light on your Samsung charger.

A defective charger

Wireless chargers are quite readily available on the market these days. This, unfortunately, means you can pick up a piece of equipment that isn’t up to the job. Perhaps try this charger with another wireless charging-enabled device to see if it charges. You can further investigate by swapping the cable and adaptor to see if you get different results. Some adaptors may just not be powerful enough. Likewise, you may have the original Samsung charger, but it has developed a fault that requires work carried out by a tech guru.

NFC interference

Your contactless payment facility may play havoc with your charger. It shouldn’t but it might. Turn this function off and test the charge.

Remove your phone case

Some phone cases don’t allow for the fluid transition of power from charger to phone. This could be causing your charger to work inefficiently, or not at all. Remove the case and try to charge and see if it makes any difference.

Your wireless charger isn’t compatible.

You may have inadvertently purchased a charger that states it is Samsung compatible but isn’t. This could lead to damage to your equipment so always consider a trusted brand like MAGFAST.

What wireless charger can I use for Samsung devices?

If your Samsung charger is still blinking yellow after all of the options mentioned above, it may be worth investing in a new charger … something that gives a reliable, fast charge but can also charge your other devices no matter what brand. Luckily, MAGFAST has created a family of super-fast charging powerbanks that does just this.
